Ved, Samantha and their Apodictic Vicinage - When Enemies turn Lovers

Writing a conclusion to a trilogy is a tough job, you’ve run out of the big reveals and confrontations, and you’ve got to meet the audience’s high expectations but Kasi makes it look like a walk in the park. The story of Ved and Samantha, the third book in the Simha University series, is by far one of her best works. Despite it having all the tropes that could’ve made it another run-of-the-mill college romance, Kasi, in her unique characteristic style, weaves a story about two flawed people that come together to bring out the best in each other. Ved and Samantha are more than just mush, steam and clichés – they’re living, breathing characters that evolve. You feel their hate and the insecurities and pain behind the hate but you also feel the naïve longing for love, a nascent need for support and the undeniable urge to bloom. You traverse this path with them - from seeing them at their worst and hating what you see because you know you’ve felt that way to cheering for them as they reach the end of their arch to emerge as stronger, better humans. The book deals with forgiveness in different relationships and raises the inevitable question – how do you forgive when you’re hurt? Kasi leaves you with a sense of remembrance, a taste of nostalgia and a little smile on your face as you bid these characters adieu because they aren’t just the cast of a book you read, they’re a little bit of you.
